Information

Following are the options to reset iLO2 password using online and offline methods.

Details

Online method

Resetting Password Using XML Scripts:

iLO 2 password can be reset using the Administrator_reset_pw.xml script. The sample script is available in HP Lights-Out XML Scripting Samples.

Click here to access and download the software utility / driver.

A few sample scripts are included in the HPONCFG delivery package. A package containing various and comprehensive sample scripts which includes Administrator_reset_pw.xml.

Refer HP Integrated Lights-Out Management Processor Scripting and Command Line Resource Guide page number 62 for more information Installing HPONCFG and HPONCFG utility.

Click here to access the 'HP Integrated Lights-Out 2 Management Processor Scripting and Command Line Resource Guide'.

Offline method

iLO 2 Security Override Switch:

The iLO 2 Security Override switch allows emergency access to the administrator with physical control over the server system board. Setting the iLO 2 Security Override switch allows login access, with all privileges, without a user ID and password.

The iLO 2 Security Override switch is located inside the server and cannot be accessed without opening the server enclosure. To set the iLO 2 Security Override switch, the server must be powered off and disconnected from the power source. Set the switch and then power on the server. Reverse the procedure to clear the iLO 2 Security Override switch. If the switch is in off position, then iLO 2 security is enabled and if it is in on position, the iLO 2 security is disabled. A warning message is displayed on the iLO 2 Web pages, indicating that the iLO 2 Security Override switch is currently in use. An iLO 2 log entry is added recording the use of the iLO 2 Security Override switch. An SNMP alert may also be sent upon setting or clearing the iLO 2 Security Override switch.

In the unlikely event that it is necessary, setting the iLO 2 Security Override switch also enables us to flash the iLO 2 boot block. The boot block is exposed until iLO 2 is reset. HP recommends that we disconnect iLO 2 from the network until the reset is complete. Depending on the server, the iLO 2 Security Override switch might be a single jumper or it might be a specific switch position on a dip switch panel. To access the iLO 2 Security Override switch, refer to the server documentation.

Click here to access the manuals for respective servers found in the HP Business Support Center.

NOTE: Usually for most of the ProLiant server the security override switch is switch number 1 on 'System Maintenance Switch'. Refer the respective server's service maintenance guide to confirm or check the access panel for location.
NOTE: One or more of the links above will take you outside the Hewlett-Packard Web site, HP does not control and is not responsible for information outside of the HP Web site.
